How it works

Questions
Which codecs will be listed for me?
Only codecs your browser can actually encode are offered. H.264 (AVC) in MP4 and VP9 in WebM work in most modern browsers; H.265 (HEVC) and VP8 may vary. If your first choice is unavailable, the tool will say which one and switch to the next best option automatically.
Does my video get uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using your device's built-in video encoding hardware and software. Your file never leaves your device.
When should I pick MP4 vs WebM?
MP4 plays on every device and platform, making it the safest choice. WebM is an open format well-suited for web embedding and tends to produce smaller files at comparable quality when using VP9.
What does quality mean here?
The quality setting controls the trade-off between image fidelity and file size. 'High' is recommended for most uses. 'Very high' keeps more detail but produces a noticeably larger file; 'Low' gives the smallest result at the cost of visible compression artefacts.
