Privacy
Two separate things, and it is worth keeping them apart: your files never leave your device, and this site carries advertising that does use cookies.

Your files stay on your device
Every tool on this site runs as code inside the page you are looking at. When you choose a file, the browser gives the page access to bytes that are already on your machine; the work happens there and the result is written straight to your downloads folder.
Master Tools has no server that accepts files. Nothing is queued, cached, scanned, or kept for “a few hours”. You can check this yourself: open your browser's network panel, run any tool, and watch — no request carries your file.
The same is true of anything you type. Text tools work on the text in the box in front of you and send it nowhere. The advertising described below never sees your files or your text; it has no way to reach either.
This site shows ads, and they use cookies
Advertising is what pays for Master Tools being free with no account and no upload limit. The ads come from Google AdSense, and being straight with you about what that means matters more than a comfortable sentence:
- Google sets cookies (or similar identifiers) in your browser and may use them to build a profile for personalised advertising, including across other websites you visit. That is how the ad business works, and this site is part of it.
- Google receives your IP address, the page you are on, and coarse device information as part of requesting an ad — the same as on any site that runs AdSense.
- We never send Google — or anyone else — your files, your typed text, your tool results, or your favourites. Those stay on your device, as described above.
- We do not sell your data. We have no data on you to sell: we hold no account, no email address, and no server-side record of what you did here.
Ad code loads late, after the page is usable, and only on tool pages below your result and on the catalog pages. It is never placed beside a button you are about to press.
Your choice about ad cookies
If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, a consent dialog appears before any personalised ad is requested, and everything Google could use to personalise ads stays switched off until you make a choice. You can decline personalisation and still use every tool on the site — nothing here is gated behind consent.
You can change your mind at any time through the privacy options link Google's dialog provides, by clearing this site's cookies in your browser, or in Google's own ad settings. A content blocker will also simply remove the ads; we do not detect blockers or ask you to turn them off.
What is stored in your browser
Separately from advertising, three things live in your browser's local storage:
- Favourites — the tools you starred, so your list survives a reload.
- Recent downloads — the names and sizes of results you produced, so you can remember what you made. The files themselves are not kept; only these labels are, and they are shown on your recent downloads page.
- Preferences — your light or dark theme choice, and a count of which tools you use most so the site can put them first.
None of it is transmitted, and none of it is shared with the ad system. Clearing site data in your browser deletes all of it.
No accounts, no sign-up, no email
There is nothing to register for, so we hold no name, email address, or password of yours.
Two tools that fetch code from elsewhere
Two jobs need more than a browser ships with, and rather than force every visitor to download them, we fetch them only when you open the tool that needs them. In both cases the code comes to your device; your file does not go anywhere.
- Remove background downloads an image-segmentation model (about 25 MB, the first time) from Hugging Face, along with the runtime that executes it. Your image is then analysed locally. The page tells you this before it starts.
- AVIF output — used by the PNG and JPG to AVIF converters, and by any converter where you pick AVIF — loads a small encoder module from a public package CDN.
Requesting a file from another server necessarily reveals your IP address and browser to that server, the same way visiting any website does. If you would rather not make those requests, simply do not use those tools.
Fonts are served from this site, not from a font provider.
What we measure
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views, so we know which tools people actually use and which to improve next. It records the page visited, where the visit came from, and coarse details like country and device type. It sets no cookies and gives us aggregate numbers rather than a profile of you. It is separate from the advertising described above.
Our hosting provider also handles the ordinary web request that delivers this page, which involves your IP address, as every website does.
Changes
If this ever changes — a tool that needs a server, for instance — the change will be described on this page before it ships, not buried in it. The date at the top is the last time anything here changed.
