PNG to AVIF

Convert a PNG image to the AVIF format for dramatically smaller file sizes with the same visual quality.

50

How it works

  1. 1

Drop your PNG file onto the upload area and adjust the quality slider. A value of 50 balances file size and detail well.

  2. 2

Click Convert — the AVIF encoder runs entirely in your browser using a compact WASM codec. Larger images take longer; a progress message keeps you informed.

  3. 3

When encoding finishes, download the AVIF file. Compare the size to the original PNG — savings of 50–80 % are common.

Questions

Why does encoding take so long?

AVIF uses the AV1 video codec under the hood, which is computationally demanding. Encoding a large PNG can take several seconds even on a fast machine. The first run also loads a small WASM file; subsequent conversions skip that step.

What quality should I use?

50 is a sensible default that usually looks very close to the original at a fraction of the size. Go higher (70–80) when the image contains fine detail or text. Go lower (20–40) when file size is the main concern and the image is mostly flat colour or blurry backgrounds.

Does this tool keep the image's transparency?

Yes. AVIF supports an alpha channel, so transparent areas in your PNG are preserved in the output.

Will the PNG file be sent anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser; your file never leaves your device. The WASM encoder is served from this site and does not send any data externally.

Which browsers can open AVIF files?

Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari (macOS 13+) all support AVIF. Older browsers and some apps may not recognise the format yet.

ICO Converter

Build a multi-size .ico file from a PNG or JPG, choosing which pixel sizes to include — ideal for application icons and browser favicons.

Favicon Generator

Favicon Generator

Generate a full favicon set from one image: a three-size ICO, an Apple touch icon, PWA icons, a webmanifest, and the HTML.

SVG Converter

Rasterize an SVG file to PNG, JPEG or WebP at a scale factor you choose. The result is a pixel image — not editable vector paths.

SVG to JPG

SVG to JPG

Convert an SVG to a JPEG image at the export scale you set, composited onto a solid background colour — because JPEG has no transparency.

Adjust Brightness

Adjust Brightness

Lighten or darken an image by shifting every pixel's brightness up or down with a single slider.

Adjust Contrast

Adjust Contrast

Increase or reduce the difference between light and dark areas to make an image pop or flatten it.

Adjust Saturation

Boost or reduce the intensity of colours in an image, all the way from vivid to greyscale.

Rotate Hue

Rotate Hue

Shift every colour in an image around the hue wheel to change the overall colour cast.
