Adjust Contrast
Increase or reduce the difference between light and dark areas to make an image pop or flatten it.
How it works
- 1
Drop your image onto the upload area and move the slider right to increase contrast or left to reduce it.
- 2
Higher contrast makes shadows darker and highlights brighter; lower contrast brings everything closer to a flat mid-grey.
- 3
Click Apply Contrast to download the adjusted image.
Questions
How does the contrast adjustment work?
Each channel is pivoted around a mid-grey value of 128. Positive settings pull channels above and below that point further apart; negative settings push them closer together.
Why does a mid-grey pixel never change?
The formula pivots around 128, so a pixel that is exactly mid-grey on every channel is always multiplied by a factor centred on itself and stays put.
Does the image leave my device?
No. The contrast adjustment runs entirely in your browser using your device's resources. No file bytes are ever sent to a server.
Will transparency be preserved?
Yes. The alpha channel is never touched, so semi-transparent or fully transparent areas remain exactly as they were.
