JPG to AVIF
Re-encode a JPEG image as AVIF to cut file size while keeping perceptual quality close to the original.
How it works
- 1
Drop your JPG onto the upload area. Adjust the quality slider to balance sharpness against file size — 50 is a good starting point.
- 2
Click Convert. The encoder runs in your browser using a compact WASM codec; a progress label shows each stage. Expect a few seconds for large images.
- 3
Download the resulting AVIF file. Because AVIF and JPEG both use lossy compression, keep the original JPG if you need to re-edit later.
Questions
Why is AVIF encoding slow?
AVIF is built on the AV1 video codec, which compresses far more aggressively than JPEG but requires significantly more computation. The payoff is smaller files at the same perceived quality.
Am I losing quality by converting JPEG to AVIF?
Yes. Both JPEG and AVIF use lossy compression, so converting between them applies two rounds of quality loss. If the original source file is available (e.g., a raw or PNG), convert from that instead.
What quality setting should I choose?
50 typically looks very close to a quality-90 JPEG while being noticeably smaller. Raise it toward 70–80 for detailed or textured images; lower it toward 30 when file size matters more than pixel-perfect sharpness.
Will my JPG be uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion happens entirely inside your browser. Your file never leaves your device, and the WASM encoder is served from this site.
Can all browsers display AVIF?
Modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari 16+) handle AVIF natively. Older browsers and many desktop image viewers do not yet support the format.

ICO Converter
Build a multi-size .ico file from a PNG or JPG, choosing which pixel sizes to include — ideal for application icons and browser favicons.
Favicon Generator
Generate a full favicon set from one image: a three-size ICO, an Apple touch icon, PWA icons, a webmanifest, and the HTML.
SVG Converter
Rasterize an SVG file to PNG, JPEG or WebP at a scale factor you choose. The result is a pixel image — not editable vector paths.
SVG to JPG
Convert an SVG to a JPEG image at the export scale you set, composited onto a solid background colour — because JPEG has no transparency.
Adjust Brightness
Lighten or darken an image by shifting every pixel's brightness up or down with a single slider.
Adjust Contrast
Increase or reduce the difference between light and dark areas to make an image pop or flatten it.
Adjust Saturation
Boost or reduce the intensity of colours in an image, all the way from vivid to greyscale.
Rotate Hue
Shift every colour in an image around the hue wheel to change the overall colour cast.
