Adjust Gamma
Apply a gamma power curve to correct midtone brightness without touching pure black or pure white.
How it works
- 1
Drop your image onto the upload area and set the gamma value.
- 2
Values above 1.0 lift midtones while keeping black and white exactly in place; values below 1.0 push midtones down.
- 3
Click Apply Gamma to download the corrected image.
Questions
What does gamma correction do that brightness cannot?
A gamma curve is a power function that affects midtones more than the extremes. Pure black always stays black and pure white always stays white, but midtones shift up or down in a smooth curve. Brightness by contrast shifts everything by a flat amount regardless of its starting value.
What value should I use?
2.2 is the standard encoding gamma for sRGB monitors. If an image looks too dark on screen, try values between 1.5 and 2.5. If it looks washed out, try values between 0.4 and 0.8.
Does the image leave my device?
No. The gamma correction runs entirely in your browser using your device's resources. No file bytes are ever sent to a server.
Will transparency be preserved?
Yes. The gamma curve only affects RGB channels; the alpha channel is passed through unchanged.
