Questions
Which bitrate should I choose?
128 kbps is fine for speech and podcasts. 192 kbps is a good general choice for music. 256 or 320 kbps preserves more detail for critical listening.
Which input formats work?
Any audio format your browser can decode — usually MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, AAC, and FLAC. Uncommon formats may not be supported, and the tool will say so.
What is the MP3 encoder used here?
MP3 encoding uses the open-source lamejs library (LGPL-3.0). The browser's own WebCodecs does not expose an MP3 encoder, so a JavaScript encoder is needed. lamejs is loaded as its own separate chunk and is never modified.
Does my audio get uploaded?
No. Decoding and encoding both happen in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
