Compress Audio

Shrink an audio file by reducing its bitrate, with an honest before-and-after size report.

How it works

  1. 1

Drop in an audio file — it stays on your device, nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2

Pick a compression target, output format, and any sample-rate or channel changes.

  3. 3

Download the compressed file. The tool reports the real before-and-after size.

Questions

How is the compression level chosen?

The three presets map to fixed bitrates: Small (64 kbps) keeps the file as small as possible, Balanced (128 kbps) suits most music and podcasts, and High quality (192 kbps) is close to transparent for most listeners.

Which output format should I choose?

M4A (AAC) gives slightly better quality per kilobyte and works on all modern devices. MP3 has broader legacy compatibility. Both are lossy compression formats.

What if the output is larger than the input?

That can happen when the source is already heavily compressed or very short. The tool always reports the real sizes honestly.

Does my audio get uploaded?

No. All processing happens in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
