Flatten PDF

Bake form fields and annotations into fixed page content and remove the interactive layer so the file looks the same everywhere.

How it works

  1. 1

Drop the PDF that contains form fields, checkboxes, or annotations you want to lock in place.

  2. 2

Click Flatten PDF — the tool draws each field's current value onto the page and removes the interactive layer.

  3. 3

Download the flattened file. If no form fields or annotations were found, the tool tells you rather than silently passing the original back.

Questions

What does flattening do to my form fields?

Each field's current visual appearance — the text, checkbox tick, or selected option — is drawn directly onto the page as fixed content. The interactive widget (the element you could click or type in) is then removed. The output looks identical but can no longer be edited.

What happens if the PDF has no form fields?

This tool checks for form fields and interactive annotations before doing anything. If neither is found, it tells you plainly rather than returning the file as if it had been processed.

Can I reverse the flattening?

No. Once fields are merged into the page content the interactive layer is gone. Make sure you have a copy of the original if you may need to edit it again later.

Does flattening affect fidelity?

The visual appearance of each field is preserved as closely as pdf-lib's rendering allows. Complex custom widgets, image backgrounds inside fields, and scripted field behaviour may not render identically to how the original PDF viewer showed them.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is flattened entirely in your browser. No data leaves your device.
