URL Decoder
Turn percent-encoded URL text back into plain readable characters as you type.
How it works
- 1
Paste a percent-encoded URL or query string — the decoded text appears immediately.
- 2
If any percent sequence is malformed, a plain-English error explains the problem.
- 3
Decoding happens in your browser; the text is never transmitted anywhere.
Questions
What is the difference between %20 and +?
Both represent a space in URL-encoded text, but in different contexts. %20 is the standard percent encoding; + is used for spaces in HTML form data (application/x-www-form-urlencoded). This tool decodes %20 as a space but leaves + unchanged.
Why does it show an error?
A stray % that isn't followed by two valid hexadecimal digits creates an invalid sequence. Remove or fix the problematic characters and try again.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Decoding uses your browser's built-in decodeURIComponent function. Nothing leaves your device.
