What is a slug?
A slug is the URL-friendly version of a title or phrase: all punctuation removed, words joined by hyphens or underscores, typically all lowercase. It appears in web addresses like /my-blog-post.
What does 'strip diacritics' do?
It decomposes accented characters using Unicode NFD normalisation and removes the accent marks, turning é into e, ñ into n, and ç into c. The result is an ASCII-only slug that works in every URL context.
What happens to punctuation and symbols?
Runs of characters that are not Unicode letters or numbers — spaces, hyphens, punctuation, emoji — are collapsed into a single separator, and any separator at the start or end of the result is removed.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Slug generation runs entirely in your browser using standard JavaScript string methods. Your text never leaves your device.
