Questions
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Every step — reading the HEIC file, decoding it, and encoding the output — happens entirely inside your browser. Your photos never leave your device.
What library does the HEIC decoding use?
Decoding is powered by the `heic-to` library (version 1.5.2), which bundles libheif compiled to WebAssembly. `heic-to` is licensed under the LGPL-3.0.
What is the difference between HEIC and HEIF?
HEIF is the container format; HEIC is Apple's specific profile of it used on iPhones and iPads. Both file types are supported here.
Which output format should I choose?
JPG is the safest choice for sharing with others — it is universally supported and produces compact files. PNG keeps every detail losslessly but is larger. WebP gives the smallest file and excellent quality but a few older apps do not support it.
Can I convert a whole batch of photos at once?
Yes. Drop multiple files at once and the tool converts all of them and delivers the results in a single zip archive.
What does the quality slider do?
The quality slider controls the compression trade-off for JPG and WebP output: higher values preserve more detail at the cost of a larger file. It has no effect on PNG, which is always lossless.
